I would really like to see Polaroid develop a film like 55 P/N but make it an infrared 4x5 film. Wouldn't it be great to see what the print would look like and then make the necessary adjustments to get a recoverable infrared negative that could be enlarged? Anyone think they could talk Polaroid into making something like that?

I'm really not too sure what the spectral response curve of type 55 is... but most B&W Panchromatic films DO tend to be somewhat IR-sensitive. ANY IR-sensitive film of panchromatic design will yield results VERY similar to classic IR emulsions if used with an IR bandpass filter (usually around 680 nm, I think). HOWEVER - I would guess that the emulsion formulated for T55 would be nearly IR insensitive as that would tend to make it fog easily (I assume the paper jackets are somewhat IR-transparent). Do a test shot. Try rating it at ASA 2 or so - with an IR filter and let us know what happens!
