I have a real beater back, there's a crack on the hinge and a crack by the front latch. The hinge holds when it's closed and the latch bit could be epoxied. Or... and this is what I would do, you could stick the film in there and tape the back closed. It's missing the dark slide.

Bottom line:
1)It will work
2)It is not pretty
3)Will need a dark slide
4)And glue
