POCKET SPOT- Worlds smallest light meter!

I was taking a look at the "Pocket Spot" meter, which is about the size of a book of matches...and it got me wondering if anyone has tried this yet?

For 450 dollars, I think the price is abit steep, but if it is worth the money...I might have to pick one up.

I have used the meter for years. It's a little bigger, at least thicker, than pack matches. I like it very much, but I should say that it has a different feel from the Pentax spot meters that so many of us are familiar. As there is no viewing lens, sighting is by viewing through a hole. There is a certain 'windage' to this, but a freedom, too. It is easier to walk about and take readings. Somehow I find it liberating not to be looking in a viewfinder through a little circle.

As the meter is so small and unassuming, it can be used anywhere without people thinking (sadly) that it is a gun. No holster on your hip. It is small enough to hang around you neck or put in a pocket. Built like a (little) tank, from a solid block of aluminum with the electronics and optics stuffed inside. I'm sure you can drop it without problems. I think you could run over it with your car and it would still work.

It is spectrally adjusted for BW films, so filter factors and the like may be read with the meter. I have never had a meter with this feature, but I like that more than I thought.

I've heard the price is $399, not $450. Availability is a bit of a problem, but getting better. Call directly. Don't trust the email.

Do you ever have problems with it reading "HI" or "LO" alot? My spot meter now reads from 2EV-18EV, so I think this one has a longer range, so that should be good.

Even at $400.00, I think that is still very expenive for such a small thing. I wonder if the price will ever come down...or if another dealer will start selling them. I dont know how long they have been out on the market for.

Hmmm...I wonder what old camera equiptment I can sell to be able to afford one. hahaha!

It reads from -2EV to 24EV (?).

Calumet has Pentax V is $450, Zone 6 is $580 (and over $600 on ebay, used ???). Others are over a thousand.

Sometimes small costs money.

Calumet is sold out of the Pentax Digital Meter at least until 7/21 and no longer lists the Analog Spot V meter.

I think I'll keep my $2 Kalimar a while longer... It's not a spot meter, but it's a quarter the size of the Pocket Spot!
