Wow -- a Pocket Spot. I remember when they first appeared on the market, but I've yet to see one or meet anyone who has one. I do recall reading that their production was low and slow, and it always seemed that they were on the verge of disappearing. So -- I certainly hope you can get yours fixed and keep on using it. If you're successful in reaching the Pocket Spot people, please consider advising them to get in touch with us all on APUG. I imagine they could sell several to our members and readers.

A second thought -- use a volt/ohm meter to measure the voltage coming out of your new battery. Perhaps what you think is new and putting out full voltage is actually weak or exhausted. It would seem very unlikely to me that the meter would suddenly fail at exactly the moment you try to change the battery.

I have one.... but I have to admit that I mostly use my average meter since I mainly shoot color negs and some B&W and mostly portraits.

They closed down their business a few years ago.

By the time I wanted to purchase their Pocket spot meter but it was already too late :-/
I have two Metrolux II compensating darkroom timers from that company that work like a charm.

Superb ! That made me laugh - you're right though - must resist...must resist...
Hi Gentlemen,
My Pocket spot meter has been repaired by an efficient very professional company, and reasonably priced too - Quality Light Metric in L.A. I'm saddened to read Pocket Spot meter is no longer being produced. It's saved this dyslexic photographer many times. if you find one out there, worth purchasing. Thanks everyone.

How do you aim those things? Are there something like pass-through optics in the sides, or do you just sort of guess?

There's a peephole. Imagine a "tube" runs between the words "Pocket.." and "Patent.."

I had a PocketSpot when they came out, like 10 years ago. It was amazing and could meter in much darker and brighter light conditions compared to a Pentax Zone VI meter.
Sadly, I sold it when I thought I was done with film photography. Now that I'm doing it again, I'd do anything to have it back.
I don't know why the company crumbled away, and was faced with endless problems that made buying one a year long process. Regardless, it would be great if someone could do a Kickstarter and make a replica or get them back up in business making the meters again.

They have been out of business for a few years. The difficulty was getting reliable parts from suppliers. I was lucky to obtain one of the last they produced. It has become my standby even though I always carry at least one other meter.
They were a two man operation both of whom had important jobs and began this operation as a sideline ..
