Please, I need your fogged ULF film

Hello:

I need one commercially manufactured (not cut down from a larger sheet) sheet of film in any undamaged condition in the following sizes to test film holders I am manufacturing to make sure they are the right size and also to measure the thickness of the film itself. I will post these sizes and thicknesses after I carefully measure them. This may seem odd, but I have found that 4x5 and 8x10 films are not 4x5 or 8x10 but slightly different than those nominal dimensions. It is natural to assume that ULF sizes would not be nominal either. I could use sheets of different types of film as well.

This is an opportunity to do something that will benefit a large part of the ULF community.

I need 7x17, 8x20, 4x10, 11x14, 16x20 and 20x24 and any other size you think you might like me to manufacture.

The film can be fogged, processed or unprocessed, in or out of focus. Darkroom mistakes are very welcome.

I am happy to pay shipping and perhaps a small expense for something you would normally throw away.

I have a fair number of duds (I am embarassed to say ) in 8x10 and 7x17. I could probably muster up some old Tri-X, FP4, HP5, and Efke PL100 in 8x10 and FP4 and PL100 in 7x17. These would all be exposed/processed films.

Note that I live in Canada so shipping would be higher than from the US so you might want to wait for more replys to save yourself a buck or two.

There are noi ANSI standards for sizes beyond 8X10, with three exceptions: 10X12, 11X14 and 14X17. For all other formats film makers must assume that the stated size of the format is the actual size of the opening in the film holder. That is, an 8X20 format should have an actual opening of a full eight inches X twenty inches. I have seen a few older holders that have openings slightly larger than nominal, but that is not the convention today.

Film is cut just shy of the size of the format. For example, 12X20 film is actually 11 15/16 X 19 15/16, 7X7 is 6 15/16 X 7 15/16. If it is cut by mistake to the actual size of the format chances are you won't be able to load it.

Most sheet film has a thickness of 0.007". So a good appoximation of sheet film for any format could be made by cutting sheets of 0.007" polyesteer to 1/16 less than the nominal size of the format.

Hello People:

Today I received the first film in the mail. An anonymous sender with no return address sent me some film from UK. Thank you so much.

I took the film to work last night and measured it carefully. Here are the results.

10X12 Maco UP100 Plus
measured 9.950x11.950 inches by .0081 thick
This is .050 under in width and .050 under in length
5x12 J&C Classic 400
measured 4.935x11.920 inches by .0077 thick
This is .065 under in width and .080 under in length
5x12 Ilford HP5 Plus
measured 4.875 X 11.955 inches by .0077 thick
This is a .125 (1/8th inch) under in width and .045 under in length

So, to answer one respondents question about a standard,,,,there is apparently no meaningful quality control on the width of film. This is exactly why I wanted samples. I have noticed big differences in film width and length in my 4x5 film, so I assumed there would be something similar in ULF films.
