I just got a Plaubel Makina I off the auction site. It has a roll film holder but I would like to try cutting down X-ray sheet film and using it with this camera. It seems the Plaubel sheet film holders are not an easy find. Anyone know of a source or alternative brands or styles that would work with this camera?

I have a quite a few different 6x9 metal plate holders, it'll take me a day or so to get to them but I'll see if there's any that resemble the Plaubel type which I think have quite a thick lip.

I use the Plaubel ones in my three Makiflexes, which take the Makina sheet film holders.
I actually have about sixty of these. Most (or all) of them I bought on Ebay or German Ebay.
You will need 6.5cmx9cm Film Inserts in these, as a lot of them were used with glass plates at the time.

I also have some made by RADA, they are around as well. One of those is on the far right.

Frequently these are rusty, I don't use those myself. And sometimes I re-do the light traps in the holders.

Darko, that's an idea the main thing I like about sheet film is that it is flat and stays flat.

Ian, that would be great if you could let me know what you have I could probably make some sort of adapter or spacer.

Nokton, I saw those but it looked like they were incomplete. And to be honest I am still weary of buying anything overseas through EBay.

I see three or four usuable holders, and three 6.5x9cm film inserts.
The seller is in New York, not overseas?

Three complete Plaubel holders for $37 is not a bad deal IMO?
I've paid more than that. Just saying.

Yes you are right, I don't know what I was thinking. I just bought them. So the second picture was with the dark slides removed?

Yes dark slides out in second photo.
With some fine steel wool you may be able to clean them all up. Touch them up with black enamel.
Then you will need inserts for the empty ones. Or pitch 'em if you don't like dealing with rust.

There is a lever at the top of the holder, that actuates a clamp. You will see how it works. In the early days of Plaubel Makina, 6.5cmx9cm glass plates would go directly into the holder. As modern sheet film came around, inserts came into play. You remove the insert, load it with sheet film, and reinsert it into the holder. Very straightforward.

I like using these holders. Just be careful to re-insert the dark slide -carefully- when shooting quickly, I have lost a few frames because the slide wasn't actually in the slot in the holder.
