Platinum Paper Source

Ron Wisner in an article at his website says

Witness the rebirth of platinum paper as a commercial commodity.

I have searched various forums & can not find any mention of the paper he is referring to. It would certainly make platinum printing alot easier & more consistent if such a paper is available. The Palladio Company made a palladium paper; but ran into paper source problems. Is there now a company making platinum paper?

Ron has a lot of problems with the concept of time. To him, 'delivery tomorrow' is functionally equivalent to 'it'll be there in nine months'. So it doesn't surprise me that a reference to Palladio paper being available when in fact it has been gone for over six years is a statement that is 'close enough' to the truth.

Is Chicago Albumen Works still around? I know they moved from Chicago several years ago, I think to Massachusetts.

Retrophotographic also sell POP. I don't know if this is the same as the Chicago Albumen Works / Kentmere POP, but I do know it works. And gives great results.

I recently bought a 1940's platinum print on that auction place, and was really impressed with the print from what was obviously an amateur negative. If anyone starts making platinum paper again I'll be on their customer list!

I think the benefits of pre-coated paper are over
rated, to a certain extent. Hand coating your own
platinum or palladium paper is easy, and the
pre-coated commercial stuff was about 3 times more
expensive. You would have to make tons of coating
mistakes to compensate for the difference in cost.
This is highly unlikely.

Also, with a precoated paper you actually have less
control over most aspects of the process; you are
stuck with the manufacturer's coating, and you can't
tweak it as easily to match your negatives, or adjust
the color, or try different papers, etc. So you gain
one modest control, but sacrifice several others.

I do think, though, more would try pt/pl if a pre-coated paper was available.

This could be true, but not necessarily a good thing. Pt/pd is weird in the sense that it is easy to get a more or less ok print right away. The tough part is getting an outstanding print, without the controls available with hand coating I think many people would give up too early and think those of us who do it insane. Like Kevin I beleive the best approach is to coat your own and experiment a little.

Arches Platine is made by Arches. No sizing is required for it nor is it required for platinum friendly papers (or unfriendly for that matter.)

Sizing is typically used for gum bichromate printing.
