I think the benefits of pre-coated paper are over
rated, to a certain extent. Hand coating your own
platinum or palladium paper is easy, and the
pre-coated commercial stuff was about 3 times more
expensive. You would have to make tons of coating
mistakes to compensate for the difference in cost.
This is highly unlikely.
Also, with a precoated paper you actually have less
control over most aspects of the process; you are
stuck with the manufacturer's coating, and you can't
tweak it as easily to match your negatives, or adjust
the color, or try different papers, etc. So you gain
one modest control, but sacrifice several others.
