June 13 - June 19
with Carrie Peterson
at Maine Media Workshops, Rockport, ME USA

Create stunning imagery with simple cameras.

Choose your plastic: It may be Holga, Diana, Banner - so many to explore! In this age of digital technology, it is fun and refreshing to go low tech. Designed for all levels of photographers and artists, participants spend the week attuned to light, vision and response through playing with and learning about "toy" cameras.

The unique attributes of plastic cameras and their expressive potential are explored both in the classroom and in the field. Slideshows cover the history, aesthetic, visual and technical aspects of Holgas, as well as the short history of the plastic camera. The class also explores the technical limits, possible solutions and creative adaptations.

Students take their new knowledge to the field, photographing both as a group and individually throughout the week. The joy of plastic is the ability to focus on vision and composition. Critiques are held the morning after each shoot, giving time to view and discuss the successes and areas for growth and experimentation for the next outing. This workshop provides a high-energy and supportive environment in which to create, experiment and push personal vision.
