Places to shoot along Louisiana's coastline

Hi,

I’m flying to Louisiana next Saturday and I'll stay there for a week. I’m thinking about spending a few days exploring places along the coastline. I’m mainly interesting in shooting landscapes. Are there any areas I should avoid? What about places I should check out? Any interesting restaurants worth checking out?

Tomorrow I’ll start doing some research on Louisiana, but your comments would be appreciated.

What part of La?

If you are flying over you should ask anyone to show the loss of wetlands, its pretty obvious from the air.

If you are coming to NOLA there are many good resteraunts and plenty to see. Ask about the Atchafalaya Basin (amazing wetlands). Venice, Grand isle, Cut Off, Golden Meadow, are all great areas to explore.

What angle are you taking? If I knew more of what you want to see I could be more helpful.

Louisseeeanna be one of them small states. Sam has sort of hit it on the head. Where are you going to be? Where are you going to shoot? I liked Honey Island Swamp (part of the Atachafalaya Basin I believe. Of course, we went out and it immediately started stormin' The gaters dove and the girls (7 and 10) freaked out in being in a 25 foot john boat with lightning all around. Me? Ooooh baby.

Food? Well the food in Louisseeeanna... it ain't that good.

Just kidding Sam. You know how much I love Cajuin/Creole cooking.

Tell us more. Where are you going to be, what do you want to see?

I'm flying into New Orleans, but I'll be staying with relatives in
Loranger. I know I'll be about 2-3 hours from the coast. That's fine I
don't mind driving.

From Google earth, the coastline looks pretty interesting that's why I
want to explore the area. Sam, I noticed some of the places you
mentioned. I just did not know if there's public access. I want to shoot
the marshlands, oak trees covered with moss, fishing ports and old buildings.

Tim, that's my kind of trip too. I guess I'll look into a boat tour to see gators.

By the way, I've been to Louisiana before but I was there just for three
days. One day, we took the boat out to Lake Ponchartrain and Lake
Maurepas and the following day we spent a couple hours in the French
Quarter.
Any cheap good Cajun/Creole restaurants? Either in New Orleans or on the way to Venice?

A good cheap local restaurant down in the quarter is Fiorella's on French Market Place near Decatur, near the French Market. Across the street is the Central Grocery, home of the muffalettas. Get there early, sometimes they run out of bread. For breakfast, you can't beat the Cafe du Monde, same area.

But.... but... Going to New Orleans and not visiting The Gumbo Shop and having Crawfish Etouffee, or The Acme Oyster house for a dozen on the half shell would seem a real waste of a trip in my eyes. Now if you make it over to Biloxi Mississippi, there is a rest. named Mary Mahoneys, a fine restaurant deserving your patronage. The first winter after Katrina, it was the only rest. in Biloxi open. With white tablecloths and a reduced but superb menu it was still a treat. Last year, it was back to it's superb standards as far as menu goes and you won't find a better lunch or dinner spot in Biloxi.

Anyhow have a great trip, go see some gators.
