Thanks. Is there a longer (full?) version of the movie available?

I think he has a good eye for an image, but he is grossly over rated for what he actually produces.

(Man, am I gonna catch crap for this)

I don't think he's anything wonderful. I think it's one of those things where he took a different type of photo in color in the early days of color that was good (tricycle shot), and was deemed by pretentious art aficionados as being wonderful, and has ridden that pony past it's realistic life. I look at his shots, and really see nothing. To me, he just takes an image from an angle that's not what people normally see things from, and that's been his ticket. People have been doing this, and with better results for years, but he's deemed a photographic genius.

From the article, he comes across as a self-centered egotistical drunk who really couldn't produce a quality piece if his next drink depended on it. Anyone who thinks AA's work sucked is someone who knows they couldn't even come close in comparison if they tried their best. I think he believes that as long as he clicks the shutter, he is creating a masterpiece above what anyone else could ever accomplish.

Sorry, there are hundreds or thousands of photographers out there that consistently produce much better images. Unfortunately, I'm not one of them. I suck, and I know it.

When I click on the link it gives me a blank page but others here can see it Any ideas on why the blank page? I don't usually have problems with links that posters provide

Thanks

It OK I don't allow data collection and this was preventing me from viewing the artiicle

He's actually a very nice funny man.....I went to Memphis and knocked on his door and he invited me in. It was noon and he was just getting up after a long night of partying. He told me to go and get a bottle of vodka and we spent the next 3 hours looking through his Chromes book and talking about everything from family/love/photography and traveling. I think its important to practice not judging a book by its cover and meeting the person before forming any type of ideas about him. In terms of his work I love it. Personally I think finding "beauty" in a tricycle , a boy pushing a shopping cart, or a coca cola sign is much harder than taking a picture of conventional beauty such as waterfalls, canyons etc., however in the end it is all art and very subjective so to each their own.

Not sure if this reply was aimed at me. If it was thanks for the thought. I may not have made it clear but once I had turned off my "blocking" key on APUG it allowed me to view the article. Thanks

Sometimes NY times will block you if you've read 10 or more article per month. It's also called a "paywall"

I like his earlier work, appropriately printed small via dye transfer. I don't care much for the redux larger inkjets, once certain images became a collectible commodity, and in fact, find them boring. A lot of the off-the-cuff charm was lost in translation.
