Just be glad you didn't have to buy the 9th edition it was $120 USED from the bookstore. If I hadn't bought it too late in the semester I'd have gotten it off of half.com for about $100.

Well I was planning on picking up the Fed 5 but saw a 5b and went for it. For some reason I couldn't say no to a $26 camera that is exactly what I was looking for. The lack of light meter really doesn't bother me as it is more of a walking around camera, though it is a little heavy for that, than an indoor situation camera and I plan on shooting B&W almost exclusively anyway.

I disagree with this. I still think the Retina IIa applies as a suggestion in this case.

These were all in the $50 area, or less in a few cases. This only includes sales in the past amount of time that EBay will let you search. (I don't know how far back they look.) In the same time period, five Retina IIas went for over $50 (one of which was a Rodenstock glass model that went for beaucoup bux).

You're correct. I should have said that in the past, these cameras rarely sold for less than $50.

I forgot that prices for certain models seem to rise and fall. Apparently, it's in a period when prices are lower. For a while, you couldn't get a IIa for less than $75.

I suspect that prices for cameras will remain low until the economy settles a bit. Probably a buyers' market for the next year or so.

Some of those were very nice. Some were crap. But they all were around $50 and often less. I'm surprised.
