Yes, i was expecting Lisp, Scheme, or any Lisp dialect as an answer.

But Luckless' answer was even better.

I'm still learning Common Lisp, though. I woke up today and reviewed some printed CL code while sipping my morning tea. Parentheses for breakfast...

Do be careful with how deep or how quickly you dive into Lisp like functional languages.
Java never gave me any kind of nightmare, other than one time when a project's GUI decided that it all wanted to render in the upper left corner back in university, and a dozen professors and student's couldn't figure out why or how it happened.

But I do have nightmares from a time where I dug too deep into some ancient legacy code before I understood all the tools enough,.. and then someone misplaced a bracket... Or was the problem with parentheses?

Master Luckless, i heed your advice, but otherwise i already am familiar with using Python as a (limited) functional language, and love it.

As for java, it gave me the nightmare of spending like 4 years of Java development where 50% of the time was spent on boilerplate code and applying idiotic "patterns" that wouldn't be needed if the language was better.

Film cameras combine physics and chemistry. Digital cameras are pure physics. I think that is why I like film cameras, as it crosses the bridge between two areas of science? What do others think?

I prefer film because I like the physical nature of it. I worked in high tech for too long. I try to get away from digital as much as possible. This forum is one thing I like about the digital world.
