A half hearted attempt at social media. Actually too embarrassed about my film photography now. Prefer just to do my own prints in the darkroom and give family and friends the prints, poor them hey! I don't like all the ads on instagram, just another Facebook clone. I also tried 500px for a while but their category "Film" seems to imply digital photos of movie stars and stuff. Actually the landscape photography on 500px is more like a photoshop painters studio than a site to show good photos. Anyway I enjoy my film cameras and the whole analogue process. It's my retirement hobby so why should I share it with the rest of the world anyway!

I don't have an Instagram account, but I've been hearing (especially recently) that I need to start one if I'm serious about marketing my work.

I have a love-hate relationship with Instagram. Too many ads and a lot of mediocre photography, but I have found out about new photography monographs, exhibitions, and other events that I probably would have missed if I hadn't read about them there. I primarily follow the feeds of well-known photographers, photography book publishers and museums/galleries. It's been very rare for me to discover work from someone I didn't already know whose work I find interesting.

Because a photograph is not complete until it's seen/shared?

I've heard it said that an image that is not a photograph (physical, printed object) is not fully complete. And I think that may apply to the act of it being seen by someone else...just a thought.

You can do a course on marketing through social media, bit more to it than just signing up if you want to effectively promote your self.

I'd be remiss if I didn't share fellow Canadian account @SandyPhimester.

Beautiful work he develops himself, B&W and colour, on a Pentax 67 and a Speed Graphic with an Aero Ektar lens. Beautiful portraiture, all.

I agree wholeheartedly.

I was quite active on Flickr before... and there was much interaction with lots of people, which I loved and it kept me continue uploading things, that I could share on forums etc...
Until some day the interaction totally dropped, don't know how, there is not much of an algorithm on Flickr I think.

Then I started with Instagram, almost 10 years ago. I thought I was late majority/laggard by starting after the hype, when everyone was already years on Instagram. But it seemed to go well, there was much fun and interaction showing pictures.
I started uploading old stuff I had from Flickr first...
Then I started to use the account more to promote my music... I tried to gain more followers, creating a network... But it got me hooked a bit too much, it got a bit an obsession and I found myself wasting too much of my free time in the past couple of years.
Social media can be an addiction, so I'm planning to limit myself more (a radical digital detox doesn't really help if you sometimes want to share things).
The past year I noticed that Instagram isn't getting me a lot interaction anymore. The reach I have is now 20% from what I've used to have. Don't know if that algorithm changed, but I know that you have to post there consistent and frequently and that's not what I do.
I only post something when I have content or news. I don't just make content to make content.
So last week I visited my Flickr again... but it's still the same (dead).

Anyway, I'm right here: instagram.com/bulevardi_official

I find Instagram handy for following news from galleries, museums and phoot organizations as well as calls for entries.

I can be found here - it's mostly film stuff but lousy phone photos of prints.
