I wish APUG was still used as a label for the Analog part of this forum.
And I didn't like the fact that when the change happened, there wasn't a lot of reference back to APUG roots.
But APUG didn't ever make sense as a forum name for a forum that was intended to have substantial amounts of non-analog content.
Just as Canada Cycle & Motor Co. Ltd. doesn't make sense as a name for a hockey equipment manufacturer (CCM) - to pick a somewhat similar example.

I've played hockey since I was tiny and I never knew them as anything but CCM until 5 seconds ago, which is probably why they use CCM instead of Canada Cycle and Motor. I doubt any but a tiny fraction know that, and they are probably all Canadians and what do they know about hockey anyway?

Now imagine if CCM changed its name back to Canada Cycle & Motor Co. Ltd.

and
5) are conflicted about the question.
If nothing else, this poll and the accompanying discussion might encourage Sean to attempt to make more use of the brand loyalty and brand recognition that still attaches to APUG.
I wonder if he has stats to indicate how many arrive here as a result of searching for APUG or because they found an APUG thread.

Honestly, this entire discussion strikes me as USDA Prime Nothingburger. I'm going back to making/enjoying/discussing photography. I really need to avoid getting sucked in to the Make APUG Great Again threads...
Y'all have fun with whatever you see in this.

Our traffic has more than doubled compared to APUG (which was 12-14,000 daily), we hit all time visit numbers recently of 38,000 per day avg. APUG was nowhere near that. There is also more support than APUG ever had. There is of course no way to have predicted 100% if APUG would have done the same over time but this is not the trend I was seeing behind the scenes, which ultimately led to taking action and evolving the site. It was a scary time, with hopes we could survive and grow, and we've done that considering what we are up against with 'big social'. Maybe some did leave APUG due to the name change, but we also had no shortage of photographers leaving and citing elitism, etc (that was a real sore point for me, I did not want to run a community perceived this way). I think the community is in a great place, and bringing in more open minded members than ever before, thirsty for knowledge and sharing. We are attracting a huge variety of photographers these days and should be proud of that! Not to mention an archive of 2+ million analog based posts free to all.

All you need are 11,780 votes to overturn this thing...

Before that rude interruption I was just about to say that film sales have been up for several years and internet use was way up in 2020. I'm not sure how to tease increased interest out of any site use statistics since the name and format change.

Whatever the name, some civility and decorum is both valuable and expected.

Okay, this is done. We do not have time to edit or do surgery on threads where people are just bickering and repeating themselves.
