i have been using cs2 for ages and ps elements before that which seemed to work fine
can anyone who is currently using elements 14 / 14 premiere tell me if
there are a few things i currently use cs2 for ? i am thinking of getting it,
( or light room if it will be more useful ) but don't want to spend money on something that might not
have what i use.

the things i mostly use are color channels, adding color, levels/contrast-brightness ...
as well as healing and spotting tools/burn-dodge, hue/saturaton. i poked around on the adobe website but there
is more glitz and glamour than pigs wtih no makeup.

will the latest version of elements do these things, or would light room ?
thanks !

I use Elements 12 and Premiere 12 and Lightroom 5 but do not have CS. Elements and LR are comparable but Elements reduces the bit to 8 while LR keeps them at 16. I'd spend more at get LR over Elements. LR does not use Layers but rather a data base of the edits you make. Because of this it's non-destructive. You don't have to create any new files. The original image file never changes.

Premiere is a movie making program. I use it to combine stills and movie clip and then add titles, narration, music, credits and create DVD's to play on my HDTV or for YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/user/AlanClips/videos?sort=dd&view=0&shelf_id=0 See the Coney Island or Scuba movies in 1080. Premier allows color, contrast, cropping and other edits of the movies clips too.

LR doesn't really have cloning capability but does all the other things you mentioned. Elements does cloning, (I think) but I never clone so not sure. Both Elements and LR have all the spotting, color adjustments, contrast, etc. Not sure what you mean by "adding color". LR has better adjustment when converting to BW as you can change each main color to increase or decrease the effective light coming through for that BW portion.

hi alan
thanks for the info !
maybe it will be elements in my future ( again and premier ). we've a hi-8 camera we sometimes use
and i am guessing premier will help with that .. and elements with the stills.

when i say adding color, i tint/colorize black and white images, retina prints, glass plates &c.
i don't add the color with oils ( at least with b/w images ) but using p-s. cyanotypes OTOH i will bleach and paint by hand.

just break down an get a subscription to CC.it will get you access to all applications and is dirt cheap while always up-to-date. I first hated the idea of a monthly charge but doing it now for two years and wouldn't ever go back

Any courses or real good books out there to teach you how to work with Photoshop Elements?
here is a free pdf version of a handbook on the web, claiming to be the handbook that was missing from the software package. I have a copy but forgot where I got it.
