I have shot a bit from the car (especially during Covid) and was also inspired by Friedlander's 'America by Car' (I have the rather huge, signed Special Edition of this book). I don't use any flash but meter for the scene outside of the car and then bump the exposure a bit, but this does result in the inside of the car being a little underexposed (see some of the images I've posted in this thread). I don't mind that look but the fill flash is something I might try in the future.

I bought Leicaphilia's Tim Vanderweert's book "Car Sick". "The images in this book were made between 1975 and 2019. All of them were taken from my car window (or, at most, 5 paces from my car door)." He had a GoFundMe set up to purchase it for $35.

For those interested, Lee Friedlander's books can be ordered from Haywire Press (a company run by Lee and his grandson Giancarlo).
Those are all signed editions - which is great, but they're expensive as a result. Many of Friedlander's in-print books can be found new on Amazon and from other photo book sellers for more reasonable prices. That said, I'd love a brand new signed copy of 'Factory Valleys' from Haywire Press, but $750 is a bit hard to swallow.
I guess it depends. A used "Western Landscapes" book costs $140 (so-so state) to $430. A new one, signed, costs $150.- at Haywire. A new "America By Car" costs at least $350 at Amazon. A new and signed one (Haywire), costs $200 to $300 (depends on size).

I guess I was fortunate enough to buy both books when they were still available. I think I've accumulated close to 30 Friedlander books at this point. I'm going to keep hoping that I can find some of the ones I'm missing without having to mortgage my house.
