Photography during the dark seasons

Last wednesday I was shooting large format in -7 degrees celcius (19F), no wind gladly. I would say my maximum is -15 celcius (5F).

I think variety is good and I am always a bit spoiled in that I complain about the weather not being in the opposite season. I live now in Scandinavia but moved from Mediterranean Spain, the latter sunny as California. The weather changes with dark winters and now frequent periods of cloud cover (1h of sun in 3 weeks las December) here make one appreciate diveristy in weather. A quasi permanent cloud cover is as boring as quasi permanent sunny day weather.

The sunlight hours are now increasing by day and I see myself thinking soon that it's too light out to be in the darkroom. The pandemic anyhow took a lot of fair weather activities so it is still better and safer to do printing inside.

The Mediterranean does have something interesting and for some reason I get quite inspired nowadays when I visit. Lovely portrait, slide film in open shade? I like the rendition in open shade and softer light

Reminds me of what Mark Twain said about New England weather. If you don't like it, wait a minute.

I don't know, I'm not much of a landascape photographer, I like to photograph people and, while beautiful, Piazza Navona and the Pantheon are proper clichè images, it's a moment and you're shooting a postcard

Exactly, I said that I'm not a landscape photographer so props to you for being beyond cliched shots of historical landmarks

It is on a test roll of old, but frozen Fuji slide film that I was given several dozen rolls of, and eventually sold off here.
I'm a Kodak slide film person myself.
It is hard to describe the lighting. That women is actually on a fish boat, docked at a fish market marina. It is a grey and windy day, there is a tarp over where we are but there is some grey sky behind me. There are also both incandescent and fluorescent lights supplying a mish-mash of lighting.
And she was a wonderful character as well!

It's a common thing that happens to people who live in beautiful and famous places. I do not have a single photo of the Statue of Liberty despite living in NYC for a few years. I felt the same way, and now I regret. I should have gotten on a ferry with all the tourists and made dozens of pictures!

I am trying to fix that mistake and work on my attitude, and I am determined to have a 100 photos of the Golden Gate Bridge (where I live) despite of it being one of the most photographed bridges in the world.

Same deal here... I grew up with famous lighthouses, schooners, harbors, and scenes all around. I didn't visit the field and farm of "Christina's World" till I was about 35 and it's only 10 miles away. All our popular lighthouses are calendar/postcard cliches and I have been visiting them in different weather and times of year to better appreciate them and see them differently than the tourists. We went to Acadia NP this summer during the lockdown and visited Bass Harbor light.. We were one of three cars there. One only visited to use the bathroom and then left. I told the kids, this is a famous lighthouse, let's walk down to the water and go see it. They were initially unimpressed.. Now they see the scenic photos on IG and in advertisements taken from where they stood and such and understand it now. The light was not great and I did not take any photos of the lighthouse.. I got a few cool photos along the trail leading to the shore viewing area of rocks and trees. I'm pleased with that.
