Does anyone know what the situation is regarding photographing the stadium that Mussolini built, the one with all the muscular athlete statues around it? I thought I had read something a while ago about them either banning it or charging some ridiculous fee for photographing there, but I could be completely wrong.

Just a thought and you may have researched this anyway but is there a website for this or maybe a website covering the various attractions in Rome that might indicate whether photography is OK?

The problems with photographing there might stem from it's use as (it was intended) sport stadium. Amongst them is the Tennis ATP tour. Photographing for non commercial use is allowed at least according to their website. But you might have to buy a ticket to enter the complex during a sports event.
