What a great project for a photoblog! I bet he doesn't shoot more than 6 sheets a subject, if that many. It wouldn't be that expensive, and it would be a good discipline to be out there shooting the big camera every day. They have a bit of an August Sander feel about them, not in their form so much, but in their scope.

There is a photographer here in the bay area that does sort of the opposite. He does portraits of people and goes back and maybe 6 years later and then another six years later, and does the exact setup in the exact place with the same background.

So you see, say, a family of 4 with 2 toddlers, then two pre-adolescents and then two teens then grown up. You get to see the backgrounds change as trees get bigger, houses update etc. Dogs come and go. Parent age.

It's quite moving to see the progression. He had a showing at a winery for a while and had often 4 or 5 in a series.

His website is http://www.artrogers.com/ but I don't think he has too much there right now.

yeah, that's the guy! thanks

thanks for the art rogers link michael -
it is pretty amazing how quickly people age in just a few years.
its too bad he only has a few of them up --- i'd like to see more!

Several years ago a friend of mine shaved his head on Jan 1 and then did'nt cut it for 1 year, he took a photo everyday. I used to do video stuff back then and i turned most of it into a little video-clip here (its about a 500K download i think) --> http://www.sacredjourneys.com/john_web.mov

Yeah, it was very amazing. Some of them looked like at least a 20-25 year span. There was a grandmother and child then at the end the grandmother was almost the child and the child was grown and sort of caring for the grandmother.

My wife who is a great dog lover got broken up when there is one with a progression of a family with the dog and in the last one the dog has been replaced with a new puppy.

It is a very interesting series. There were about 50 of them in his showing.
