I was wondering what software people use to stitch negatives together? I have a v600 scanner and want to scan 4x5 negatives but my scanner won't do it in a single pass. I understand I can scan the negative in two separate passes (having moved it to scan the unscanned portion) and then align the two together in software. What software do you use for this purpose? I have an older version of lightroom but I am not sure if it's capable of doing this. I suspect GIMP might be able to do this as well but was wondering if there was an easier "automatic" way of doing this.

Hugin. it's brilliant and it's free. It's actually a collection of programs now all controlled from a single interface.

Ian
Just stitched two separate photos together using Hogin- amazing. Thank you so much for suggesting it. I will posting the results of the stitch (and my first foray into both pinhole and large format photography in the following thread in just a few moments:

Les, I used to use Microsoft Ice and it was good but try Hugin it's a lot better.

Ian
Can you post results that differentiate the two or are there other factors to consider?
I will be trying myself but it would be cool to know what you think.

I've used PS5 and Autostitch. PS5 gives more control and flexibility and handles bigger files on my PC than my version of Autostitch for iOS.

Hi Les, I can't post results simply because I can't be sure what software I used.

My first stitched Panoramic images were done in Micrografx Picture Publisher, this was a program way ahead of Photoshop 20+ years ago it had layers (called something different) 2 years earlier, it had a great feature for stitching images and I put together an amazing panorama of 15+ digital images by hand. There were glitches but with older screens poor resolution they were hard to spot

I tried recreating the same Panorama in Microsoft ICE and it wasn't particularly good, Hugin just nailed it perfectly.
