Hi Curt,
i) click on the Member Links menu (2nd from RHS along the black top menu)
ii) select 'My Control Panel'
iii) click on '(there was a url link here which no longer exists)' in the LHS menu of Settings and Options

Note: if you select your own photograph, the maximum size of your custom image is 64 by 64 pixels or 19.5 KB (whichever is smaller). It took me a while to retain detail and get my image small enough. I seem to remember that by setting the jpg compression really high, I managed to get it small enough.

regards
Peter

Thanks Peter, the graphic is there but the quality is less than perfect. I guess it depends on the image.
Thanks again for the help,
Curt

Getting an avatar to look good is tricky. What I found works is to downsize the image in stages by 50% each time, resharpening at each stage, and you'll probably have to decrease the amount of sharpening as it gets smaller.

What David said. The greater number of steps the less radius and amount required in USM. As the image gets smaller decrease radius.

Gotta love photographers, worried about a postage stamp sized pic done in pixels!

Just wait 'til you see my portfolio on my iPod Nano. Straight from MF and LF negs to a 1x1.5" LCD screen!

I'm tempted to put a computer graphic on instead of a photo. How about a picture of John Kerry I took, or a picture of "W", wouldn't that be great?

Thanks for the help and thanks for the helpless

Just always reduce size in terms of area in quarters so four pixels are merged to one ...

in photoshop choose 'nearest neighbour' if you are doing this with quarters and you will get the best possible reduction - 'bicubic' actually adds noise ...

You can see in Dr Bob's qoute at the top of the page what will happen to pixel sized detail (i.e. text) if you dont...
