Hi, and hello from Ireland. I'm new to Photrio and I'm looking for some advice. I have a Phillips Compact 11 camera I bought 10 years ago, and I'm just not using it these days. Does anyone know how much it's worth? I'm thinking of selling it, but I don't know what the current value is. It's in very good condition and comes with a 300mm Nikkor W f5.6 lens, Serial number 240. Any advice greatly appreciated

thanks
Simon

These cameras are so rare that IMO determining a fair selling price is going to be tough, but... There was a discussion some years back on the LFPF where it was mentioned that these cameras are typically listed in the $3,500 to $8,000 range. To my mind, the trouble with selling in this stratosphere is that there are several new options available at the lower end. I guess someone would really have to want this model camera, specifically, with price being not object.

I wish you all the best, if you decide to sell it.

I sold 2 Phillips cameras in the last few years. My 8X10 went to France for around $5000.00 with a lens and a few film backs. My 8X16 went to China with a lens and 5 film backs for the same number. Some people use Ebay ,but the prices can be hard to pin down.these are truly great cameras and you should get a good price!

I'm not interested in selling my Phillips, and you'd be amazed at how little I paid for it new; but I've seen used ones going as high as $6500, and as low as $4500.

Yes, there are companies like Chamonix that have copied Dick Phillips original concept, and with his permission. But I think the original is a little more stable, and there are evidently people perfectly able to pay top dollar, even if they seldom or never actually use the equipment. Just like collectors of fine woodworking tools and machines - some want only the best but never touch it. My own Phillips has seen a great deal of outdoor use, and that's why I can certify it's well built.

I have always wanted to buy a phillips explorer, i consider a great design camera, but unfortunately could not afford one.
At the high prices sold i would prefer to buy an arca swiss or a toyo.
Good luck with yours im sure you will buy it at high price in ebay
