Hi all,

In another thread I started the petition for B&W Fuji instax film - but now opening separate thread. So far 2 supporters only. Is there really no wish for B&W instax film? I was thinking that on APUG we can collect many hundreds to support this. Anybody want to sign?

I think many of us that signed the packfilm petitions have gotten the message that Fuji doesn't respond to petitioning. Over 20,000 signatures to save color packfilm, and little more than a few dismissive remarks from Fuji. Your idea is good, but in the end, Fuji does what they want.

As I understand it, FUJI will not under any circumstances manufacture the pull apart film. You are wasting your time. They have made their decision and it is irreversible. Our only hope seems to be with the smaller manufacturers developing a similar product.

What I would really like to see is FUJI make a back for the GX680 that will use their current Instax film. But whether that would be good business sense for FUJI is something they have obviously looked at and decided against. If you can't make a profit, you don't need to be in the business of whatever it is - just the facts of capitalism, like it or not.

The petition is to ask that Fuji make a B&W Instax film.

Out of principle I've signed it.
Good luck!

signed...but I want the old polaroid sheets back...and my holder can come out of hiding

Thanks Drew. So far 5 supported - that means practically nobody in APUG wants to have B&W instax film. I find it little strange, I was sure many will support it. About old polaroid films: chance for that are practically none, but for instax the chance exist - fuji sells more than 5 millions instax cameras every year...

I do not want to derail this thread but I am confused. Fuji are selling 5 million instax cameras every year but are not producing instax film to go with them? I can only presume that the production of instax cameras will stop soon or is already stopped as users will soon have a camera which is an ornament only or is there another source of instax film that Fuji can rely on?

Isn't this similar to Ford producing cars that require tyres but no-one is making tyres for Ford cars?

Is I am missing something obvious here then no doubt others will point out what this is

Thanks

I'm sort of amazed at how good the I stay color film is compared to the b&w impossible film that I had been shooting, which I was never really satisfied with. The Fuji is also a smarter camera than the Polaroid spectra pro, I think, so that may be part of it as well. If their black and white is any bit as good as the color we'd all be in for a treat

Fuji is making plenty of Instax color film. What they don't make is Instax B/W film, and that's the point of this petition.

There's probably no way you can get enough signatures to get Fuji interested. They can maintain the current product with basically one process. Why would the make things more complicated and expensive for themselves for a tiny portion of the market? If they're selling five million cameras, you'd have to be able to demonstrate that some good portion of those users want the product.

Thanks for that. I had assumed wrongly that B&W Instax film already existed and this was to retain it. I can understand a desire to have B&W but I doubt that there is anything like enough demand.

I could sign a petition out of solidarity with other APUGers and a desire to see others get what they desire but if I am honest I wouldn't really buy any, so a signature on my part would not be honest in terms of indicating a demand to Fuji.

I want to have B/W instax film. I just don't believe in internet petitions. Has any internet petition ever accomplished anything?

Also, I don't think Fuji are unable to come up with the idea of B/W instax for themselves. If they haven't done it yet, there'll be some reason. Possibly the same reason there aren't a variety of instax flavours.

I think a petition is a good focal point, but any petition should also include an email address to Fuji customer support. A petition with 10,000 signatures can be more easily ignored than 1000 emails.

Even better would be 10,000 letters hitting the Fuji mailroom over a week or so. These days if that many people bother themselves to write individual letters about starting production of B&W then it would be difficult to dismiss it whereas signing an online petition or even sending a standard, prepared e-mail is a matter of a few clicks

There is still a lot to be said for letters and snail mail :D

Probably they estimate it would be unprofitable for them to do it. I'm sure they can figure out that if they had a b&w product, some people would buy it. Just not enough to be worth the time and expense to develop and maintain the product. In the heydey of film, b&w was a tiny percentage of film usage. Fuji is making money on Instax, but they're aren't going to make a huge investment to get an additional 2% sales.

There probably isn't any technical reason Fuji couldn't make a B&W version of Instax. BUT - it would be at least as expensive to make as the color version - and probably much more since the quantity made would be very much smaller. I just don't see Fuji doing this!
