Happy Holidays to all for starters...
In going through my gear I finally got to my box of mounts and have a Peter Lisand Shoulder Brace model number MSP-75.
I picked it up at one of the last Camera shops in the area before it closed. Man I miss that place... He had boxes filled with gear from waaaay back. Anyway...
The pads were crap so I removed them. (They were glued on.) I set out to modernize it a tad by making the shoulder pads removable by way of Velcro.
Tip for those thinking along these lines. Do not use industrial strength Velcro.
1) It's way too strong.
2) for whatever reason. It oozes the glue... all over everything.
At any rate, I've removed the industrial Velcro and went with something a little more civilized, and thinner. So far, no glue oozing.
My question for those here is, are there any suggestions for the pads? What material do you use for the actual padding?
I was thinking of covering, whatever padding with a Velcro sticky cloth as opposed to sewing in Velcro strips. Something I saw used on another piece of gear. The cloth itself, clings to the hook side of Velcro nicely.
Do they make replacement pads for shoulder braces like that that might fit this Lisand brace that someone might have a source for? That doesn't cost an arm and a leg I might add... and the padding doesn't fall apart in quick order?
Lastly, I saw in a online version of Popular Mechanics a pic of one similar to mine. But not the same. The PM mag was dated July of 1973 I believe. Maybe 74. Article called "Ready... Aim... Shoot!" Which featured several shoulder braces. Kinda funny to see the price of the Pro version at a whapping $100 bucks and the Amateur version at $65.
I didn't pay anywhere near that for mine... But mine, though not new, just needed some minor tlc.
I'm rambling on, sorry.
Any idea what year mine is from?
Here's a pic of mine in its current state:
Mine has that cool handle grip on the upright. The one in the PM Magazine didn't have that grip, nor do any others I found online.
Thanx in advance for any insight you can give to help me get this brace back in working condition... And
