I want to start reusing my perma wash, atleast some. Whats a decent conservative number of 35mm rolls I can use per liter of perma wash? Also, how long should I keep the mixed perma wash? I have a feeling I won't be able to exhaust the perma wash before it goes bad anyways. I only develop 4-8 rolls per month.

Thanks!

I use Perma Wash for prints (4oz/1gal) but not for film. I have never had a problem with thoroughly washed film but would suspect that a fresh mix for each session would be best especially since a small amount is used to make a liter of working solution.

Good Afternoon, Stregone,

Eliminate the storage/exhaustion problems completely by using Perma-Wash as a one-shot mixed immediately prior to use. 1/4 oz. Perma-Wash to 8 oz. of water takes care of one roll of 35mm; 1/2 oz. Perma-Wash to 16 oz. of water is adequate for one roll of 120, etc. Unlike the situation with developers, there is no great precision required in mixing the Perma-Wash solutions (and I am not an advocate of darkroom slopiness). The simplest procedure is to put the fixed film in the film washer while you return the fixer to its storage bottle. Next, give the developing tank a thorough rinse. Then measure out the required amount of Perma-Wash and put it into the tank while adding enough water to cover the reel(s) in use. Give the film a couple of minutes in the Perma-Wash solution, with occasional agitation and return it to the washer for final wash. Dump the Perma-Wash solution; it's not expensive enough to make trying to save it worthwhile.
