I have been meaning to try out this developer and finally got around to mixing up a batch earlier this evening. The Film Developing Cookbook mentioned that more info about XR-1 can be found at Unblinking Eye ( it looks like this page has some good dilution / time starting points for a handful of films), but I was curious if anyone else out there has corroborated this data and/or if anyone had other relevant starting points or experience? I'm looking for some info regarding HP5+ in particular.

Being an incorrigible seeker of....pun intended...developer perfection, this is on developer that has long intrigued me. But I've never gone done this rabbit hole mostly because of the paucity of film/time information.

A few years back I dabbled a bit with DK-50 diluted 1:1. The ONLY film that officially uses that is Tri-X! Makes no sense to me, but who am I to argue with the Great Yellow Father?

So when I wanted to try this with Plus-X, I just compared the time of each film in D-76. That gave me a "reactivity" proportion. I don't remember the exact times or ratios, but danged if it was spot on.

You might want to try something like that. Although the times, films, and dilutions presented by Ed Buffaloe will be a challenge.

IIRC, Perfection was sold as tablets.

Here's a copy of the old original info that came with packets...
