Dear friends,

If full plate is the most perfect format then quarter plate is definitely the second most perfect format due to the similar proportion and the smaller size that makes it so much more readily portable. I have a quarter plate camera, dark slides and a developing tank complete with sheet film inserts. this type of equipment was made in such large numbers that it is still readily available in such places as Ebay. if these formats are going to be reintroduced (I hope) it may, if feasible, be more sensible to make them as glass plates as most dark slides are designed for these and considering the relatively small demand perhaps only one emulsion, FP4?

If full plate were to be available I would probably look out for a full plate camera as well!

ILFORD Photo / HARMAN technology : Return of Postcard Product

Dear Apug Members,

Yesterday the approval to manufacture postcard product was given by the board, after the successfull production test last week...:

We will be contacting our distributors around the World today that we will be bringing back item 1834846 Glossy Postcard 10x15 Multigrade PORTFOLIO and item 1856084 Pearl.

We will manufacture 3 or 4 times per annum ( dependant on demand ) so the distributors will be asked to place orders on us in the next three weeks and we should manufacture just before Christmas, we will then have to ship to distributors and get through the supply chain to the dealers and retailers so I guess it will be early February or so before you see it in the shops around the World.

I guess you realise that it will be more expensive than when you bought it last time...but it is back and I hope you all enjoy it, I really am going to sort out a competition for a bit of fun.

Well I guess this is the APUG members first new ( returned ) ILFORD product
congratulations....

Simon

Thank you, Simon!

PS: The "pearl" surface holds up much better in the mail and is my favorite - if the image is right for it.

Fantastic news, I've never had the chance to try the postcard papers, I can't wait to try it. Thank you for your continued commitment to us!

Thanks, Simon! (And I'll second Ole's observation that the pearl surface holds up better to the mail than the glossy, and add that either of them holds up much better to the mail than an inkjet!).

Simon,

That's excellent news! I think everyone here should buy a box or two when it reappears and join the APUG postcard exchange, it's great fun.

Cheers

I just rushed down to the postoffice and posted cards to Simon. I have been mulling over for over a week which one to send him. I had culled out 30 of my past ones to choose from, then down to 13. Today I narrowed it down to 4 and said aww hell and sent all four. If he wants a deluge I can literally send him an old postcard stock box filled with postcards I have done.

I do love the postcard exchange.

Okay, now I *have* to get a 6x9 cm negative carrier for my D2 -- enlarging 35 mm to postcard is well and good, but my best images are on 6x9 negatives...

A Couple Of Things : Inc AGFA equivalents

Dear All,

Somebody asked for a list of ILFORD Photo products v AGFA Photo products, I have been informed that it has been posted on our website today as a PDF, in the window that appears then rotates.

I have to thank Mike for his postcard that arrived today, really nice image, and quite the neatest and most symetrical tree I have ever seen ( did you trim it ? ) goodness knows what is about to arrive from the US from the None Digital Diva...the excitement at ILFORD Photo's post room is almost palpable and grows by the day.

It seems many of you are interested in visiting our factory, I have asked a few pertinent questions on the member organised forums that this thread now appears in.

Thats all for today

Simon.

Thank you Simon, if you mean did I trim the tree? No I didn't, It's about 60ft high and not on my land! The full neg scan is here (there was a url link here which no longer exists) in my gallery.

Regards

Mike

Confused: postcard?

Simon and others,

Okay... All over this thread, whenever I read about "Postcards" I have been wondering, and now I simply can't delay asking: what is it?

Do you mean the regular 10x14.8 cm paper (like the 9x13, 13x18, 18x24 etc, only a different size (duh!))? If so, I didn't know it was formerly discontinued & I'm glad it will be back, because I can't do without it.

Or is there something special to it? Heavier paper, with predefined space for address and stamp on the back, perhaps (that would explain the term "Postcard"...)?

I guess it's just me, but I'm confused... I'm sure, however, that someone can enlighten me...

100% - you got it in one! It's the right size, on the heavier Portfolio paper and has printing on the back for the address etc...

Cheers, Bob.

OK, thanks! I've never seen that before, but that sounds like a very nice product!

Kraker, think of it as a picture postcard, only YOU get to print the picture on the back.

I'm looking forward to it -- maybe I can finally start to get some folks to understand why I shoot B&W...
