Unless it has changed in the last few days Ultrafine has been out of its house brand B&W film for months. If they ever have it back in stock who knows what the price will be. My guess is that the price will go up 20-30%.

A couple years ago xtreme bulk rolls were insanely cheap--about $30-$35 for a 100ft roll. As you said--the price will go up if they ever restock it. The finesse I've never used, and seems to be pretty new, so, while I liked xtreme 100 (and disliked the xtreme 400) I don't know what to expect from the finesse films.

EDIT: Also noticed that while finesse 400 is available finesse 100 isnt, and doesn't even have dev times listed yet. Unfortunately, I rarely shoot 400 speed and would much rather have 100 speed available.

Sorry. I didn't click on the 100 link. I thought they had updated it.

In my somewhat limited experience, I'd say Finesse 400 compares favorably to HP5+.

They currently say 1-2 weeks on the 100, so hopefully soon, we'll see.

So with a little bit more than 18 rolls of 36 per 100 feet (Kodak’s 64 inches). And assuming you have all the stuff, the film cost buying a bulk roll of TMAX-400 in the US would be about 75% the cost if I buy per roll with no discount. Since I occasionally get a discount the savings are less.

Now I have all the stuff. And developer and fix on hand so it won’t cost me against the current week’s budget. I do have to be careful not to wind too long a roll for the reel. And I reel in the dark so it’s good to the end (if you daylight load the last shots are ruined like the leader). Have to be careful not to scratch and the cassette might scratch it too, going through the felt twice.

So it’s not about the money - it’s about the film. If you want Double-X someone is going to start with a bulk roll. When I want Panatomic-X or Plus-X, I have to load a bulk roll.

But if I can get the film per cassette preloaded, I much prefer it that way.

I really like woodlandSerenade’s post, tells it all.
…The best case scenario of:
$107/ (20*39) = 14c per frame.
