Hi,

Does anyone know of an easy way to distinguish a Pentax MX case from an ME/Super case, please ?

After previous bad experiences with the Pentax 'M' series, I bought a known faulty MX a while back and have now restored it to working condition. I took it out at the weekend, liked using it and got some good results (quality-wise, if not content!) Unfortunately it didn't come with a case. When I look on ePay various cases appear but usually listed as "MX/ME/ME Super". Now I've already tried the MX in an ME case and that's too narrow by about 3/8". thus, I need to make sure that before I part with any cash I'm getting the right case. Asking the vendor to measure it would seem the simplest solution, but with a pliable case, small difference and interpretation of the dimensions that might be easier said than done, hence the question - any distinguishing features of an MX case, such as an extra cut-out, logo location, etc?

Any information gratefully received.
Thanks very much,
Steve

Thanks Jerry. At least I'm not alone!
The suggestion someone made about using a bigger LX case seemed to defeat the point of having something as small as the MX.
Just keep searching, I guess...

Your best chance will be if there any photo collector's fairs nearby. Our local one runs twice a year and there is usually a few stalls that have big boxes of camera cases. Then all you have to do is sift through them until you find one that fits. I can't think of anything in particular that makes an MX case stand out from an ME case. An LX case is a lot rarer than an MX case so that would seem to be an expensive option over just waiting for an MX case to come up on eBay.

Hi Paul,
Unfortunately the South West of England seems sadly lacking in camera fairs. The last one I went to was the big one in London (name escapes me) and that's 250 miles away. It was also on a Sunday and there are no trains from Plymouth to London on a Sunday so I had to drive to Exeter to catch the train. With the petrol, train fare and food the day cost me £75 before I bought anything and actually I only spent a fiver !
Cheers,
Steve

You could give these guys a try: http://www.pacificrimcamera.com/ They often have genuine and off-brand camera cases. I'm not sure how much postage to the UK will cost nowadays but it can't hurt to ask.

Hi Paul,

Coincidence is at work here... I found them on eBay selling a pattern case for an MX/ME, etc. They assure me that it's a good fit but being an independent manufacturer's case it's probably not going to be made to such tight specs as Pentax's and so should be an either/or. Looking at eBay ads with MX cases in the shots, they all seem to be past their sell-by date and showing a lot of cracking, peeling, etc., whereas Pacific's is still in its box and looks in good nick. Cost was 18 of our English pounds including p & p and it's on its way as we speak!

Thanks for the tip!
