They are the smallest and lightest of their kind with the largest viewfinders.
With the 40mm pancake lens, they are jacket pocket size. The M42 fisheye - with an adapter, is also quite small. Both are very good lenses, again if found in good condition.
You need another sample of the MX. There is significant paint loss on the side.

There is the advance axle with the sprocket wheel and there is the take up spool. The take up spool is driven by the advance axle by means of a clutch.
Fortunately the MX has a removable back. But I did manage to get a nice black MX . . .

As a user of OM system and owner of several M42 lenses, I must say that there's no M42-OM adapter available without an optical element in it. Which means quality loss. Not to mention that if the lens is a later model, or Japanese, which have automatic diaphragm, you won't be able to stop it down.Ok!

Perhaps they did not realize many people don't want to remove the stickers.
The MX is smaller, sexier, better built, better viewfinder, better meter display, lower shutter vibration, tougher wind advance, and probably has a wider lens selection. And more ergonomic.
Pentax was an older, bigger company than Olympus, with much more budget for R&D and an enviable history as the pioneers of japanese SLR cameras and optics. It was expected that they would create a superior product.
As for the LX vs MX vs ME, the MX has a smoother shutter than the ME (horizontal shutters almost always win).
The LX was too big for me to prefer over the MX. The LX is small for a professional camera! But the "professional camera" category is already well covered by my F-1s and F2s.
Despite that, the MX is almost pro.
No, of course LX isn't that big, but it hits the wallet too hard, unlike ME Super or even MX.The Lx wasn't too big for me but I wanted too long till Lx was discontinued. Last pricing was USD 4500,- with 1.2/50mm.
By the way it is nearly impossible to find a MX in New condition.

That is why I still have Zenit camera in the cabinet.
