I've managed to accumulate way too many 35mm cameras so it's time to thin the herd a bit.

Selling my black Pentax KX camera with the Pentax 50mm/1.7 SMC lens. The camera was serviced in December 2022 by well-known Pentax specialist Eric Hendrickson.

The camera has been recently film tested. The only known issue is that the meter works only sporadically. Eric determined that it needs a new meter movement. He didn't have any in stock when he serviced the camera, and I use a handheld incident meter anyway so I didn't send the camera back for the meter repair. But it is repairable if you prefer using the camera's internal meter.

With the exception of the meter, the camera and lens are in excellent working and cosmetic condition, with only a hint of brassing on the edges and some subtle marks on the bottom plate of the camera body.

This camera has the optional split-image focusing screen fitted. According to threads on the Pentax Forums, this is relatively rare, although both KXs I've had included this focusing screen so I'm not sure how rare it really is. But it is nice to have.

An OEM Pentax lens cap is included.

Asking $225 $195 plus insured shipping to your zip code. Payment via Zelle or PayPal Goods and Services. CONUS sales only please.

Note: I see that a lens filter snuck its way into a few of these shots. It is not included, however.

I have a KX with the f1.7 50mm lens. This is a FAR superior camera than the often overpriced K1000 for anyone wishing to learn film photography. Check the specs at Pentaxforums for a good comparison.

Thanks, it is a great camera. I'd keep it, but I already have a couple of other Pentax SLRs, Nikons, etc. and really need to stop hoarding all this stuff 🙂

That 1.7 lens is a great lens. Probably one of the best values in top of the line lenses. Matches the 1.4, but doesn't have the aura of the wider lens. Pentax knew this- same formula for its whole run through assorted models.

The KX was my second favorite Pentax body, nipping at the heels of the LX which was a hard camera to beat. I have many, many rolls of film from my KX.

I have no K series stuff anymore otherwise I would be sorely tempted.

I wish...

I have my Pentax ES, a couple of lenses and that is as far as I dare go. SWMBO barely tolerates the number of camera systems I have. Gotta watch myself. I mentioned this in a photography class last night and will point anyone interested to your posting.

It is a nice camera for someone, that's for sure.

SWMBO . . . LOL I think I married her sister

I already have a KX or i would have snapped this up. If the meter was working I probably would anyway. The KX is the under appreciated gem of the K series. Mine does not have the split prism but does have the 1.4 on it. Also have K1000 SE that is in pristine condition.

All that babbling above aside . . . I really miss my MX that was tragically destroyed in an accident.

I've been using a handheld meter/incident metering for so long that I don't even use the working meters in my cameras that have them. But I get that some people prefer to use a built-in reflective meter and will only buy cameras that have them. The good news is the required part to repair this meter seems to be available on eBay (and probably other places) for about $20, and the cost of installation by a knowledgable repairer like Eric Hendrickson is $50 (see his quote in the attached repair invoice). So not too bad.

Last bump. If it doesn't sell I'll just do the only sensible thing and keep it for myself 😀

Looks like I'm going to hang onto the KX for now. Thanks to everyone who expressed interest.

Edit: Wouldn't you know it, as soon as I pull the ad someone reaches out and wants to buy the camera. So it's now sold.
