pentax 6x7 TTL meter

does a lens need to be attatched for the meter to work? i can't get the battery check to work. i put a fresh battery in recently, however have bought no lenses yet.

Mine doesn't often work either even though the battery still has juice.

No won't work. If your TTL meter doesn't work follow this procedure- remove the lens, remove the prism, put the prism back THEN put the lens back. This is sometimes the only way to make sure the aperture link chain "engages".
