Hello everyone,
I have a problem. I recently (2 months ago) got a Pentax 6x7 MLU and everything was working perfectly until yesterday. Out of 10 frames, 4 were half blank, some almost unexisting. The internet-forum people say it is likely a problem with the battery but some suggest that it's a problem with the shutter curtain sync. I really hope the battery is just old, nothing more serious than that. If not, do you know how much a shutter repair could cost?
Thank you.

Hello
if the Pentax have this problem at hight speed 1/1000s ou 1/500s, it is a problem of Shutter curtain, maladjustment of the tension of curtain

Yes, the speeds used were 1/500 and 1/1000. How do I explain this at the camera servicing place and what is the repair price of this problem?

Perhaps do the easy thing first and replace the battery.

Were the blank or bad shots only at the end of the roll, or were they at the start as well? If the problem appears only at the end of the roll, maybe this shows the battery was weaker than at the beginning.

If you have to send the camera for repair, just write them a note like you did here and include the developed negatives with the camera.

Good luck and welcome to APUG!

The bad shots were in the middle of the roll. I will definitely get it CLA'd then. Thank you all! Cheers!

It reads like the shutter is opening but not closing with the selected shutter speed (remaining open and closing much later), so both shutter and solenoid may be implicated. BTW, store the Pentax 6x7 or 67 with the shutter speed dial set to X or B and avoid long idle periods where the shutter is cocked and ready for firing. If repair is involved the cost could well be much more than the amount you paid for the camera, in which case you are probably better of buying another one. Repairs routinely cannibalise from other 6x7 / 67 bodies as nothing is made new for them now. The shutter, mirror, solenoid and TTL electronics are frequently cited for repairs.

I had this same problem, the local repair place said it's about $75 to CLA.

Take the negatives along & show them the problem,

Great Idea. I did the same thing. I actually wasted a whole roll going from 1/1000s down to make sure I'm not crazy. Sure enough the top two speeds were bad.
