Pentax 67ii Winder Issue

There is a shop in Rock Island Illinois USA. United camera repair, they fix everything.

That sounds fab, but as I'm in UK it's probably not economical - and I've had issues with cameras being held in customs for weeks.

I trust to do for my Agfa Isolette 6x6 - I've done (better said) !
I own 3 cheap models (one with expensive lens) and in possible case of trouble I would have had one good alternate : Hands off in concern of camera 2 + 3 and replace the first I disessembled and unable to match the parts.......but it was easy going!
But P67II is with some more parts :

Yeah, I know: complicated. I really wanted to check on here just in case someone could give me experience of finding a straightforward fix for an amateur like me, but I've sent it off to be repaired properly.

A lot of money to get fixed, but significantly cheaper than a replacement body (£1600+).

Not realy - I remember cheap bodys from 4 - 5 years ago! But then you have a strong used P6x7
body - meanwhile also this cheap "entry" bodys are not longer at £150,- !

I got to play with a 6x7 and a 67 last week and honestly, I don't want to downgrade from the 67ii at this point.

Saying that, I'd take an earlier body in an instant as a backup, if I find on at a reasonable price. I got a 645N as a backup and it gets a fair amount of use, but sometimes I miss the bigger frame size.

Have you guys fixed your P67-ii stuck winder problem? If not, here is a good news for you. The P67-ii stuck winder problem is caused by dirty shutter magnet. I own a P67-ii and had that problem in 2007. I fixed it DIY by using a syringe to drop a tiny drop of isopropyl alcohol to the shutter magnet. It fixed it and it has never reoccurred ever since. It cost me only the cost for a copy of the service manual to learn how to take the top of the camera off (the winder side only). Once the cover is off the shutter magnet is visible and reachable with the tip of a syringe. I dropped a tiny drop of the Isop=alcohol to clean the magnet. It did the trick. However, before reassembling the top and the crank back together you need to release the winder lock so that the winder is reset and ready to be cranked again. You need to look for a lever driven by the shutter magnet. Start from the shutter magnet and you can see it easily. That lever will in turn push another spring loaded lever to release the winder lock. Just use the tip of the syringe to nudge that lever and it will release the lock. Then reassemble everything. The camera will not have the problem again. I don't think it is a difficult job. I believe most people can DIY it.

I think the dirty shutter magnet is caused by dirty air and moisture of the environment. Dust, oil and moisture in the air cause the shutter magnet to stick. This happened to many modern cameras that used the same shutter magnet mechanism. Pentax 67-ii is just one of them. A drop of alcohol is all it takes to clean the magnet and the problem will be solved immediately.

@mtjade2007 Fascinating! I spent about £300 getting mine fixed by what appears to be the last Pentax repair service in the UK. I wish I'd seen your post at the time, although I do feel I might come across this issue again (with this or another body) so I'm keen to try it, if and when it happens.
