Lets set aside our differences and take some pictures with film. We speak the language of analog photography. Do it straight away.

Actually on looking again I did. Here you go:

10 Things Brits Do That Drive Americans Nuts

True but I don't believe it was written by an American...per the BBC site re author of above, "Ruth is a British freelance journalist who recently swapped east London for Brooklyn."

My point is, I don't see a lot of folks from the States saying to others, you spell X word Y way.....

What makes us different only makes us stronger

Yew ain't frum 'round here, are ya?

Not so much here in metro Atlanta but go to small southern country towns and, if you sound like you're from New Yawk or Bahston or even the midwest, you'll get plenty of odd looks and possibly outright laughter.

swapped east London for Brooklyn.

Not sure who got the best deal there. Were there any bridges included?

Our problem is that we make too little use of the 'z', but it's so obnoxiously 'zingy' that I can't see it becoming commonplace. Anyone shot a zeeeebra in color?

... or as I was asked one lonely night in a remote small town in the Ozarks, "You just visiting, or are you leaving soon?"

In England we usually and historically refer to 5 X 4 and not 4 X 5. Is 4 X 5 an Americanism? Does most of Europe say 5 X 4 or 4 X 5? However, I like the way they spell colour without the u in America. Do others have views about some of these pedantic differences?

Have we answered your question yet?

They're not pedantic. They're very important! Now I have to go out and cut up some 4x2s.

I try to capitalize the first word of each sentence for clarity. Whether other words get capitalized or not depends on how well my right arm is doing at the time. You wouldn't know this but I broke my arm badly some months ago and I have good days and bad days. I may be reduced to writing like e e cummings or Don Marquis's archy.

Can one break their arm goodly?

Irregardless [my bad] I wish you a speed and complete recovery.

Although the surgeon didn't use this term, yes you can have a good (quick to heal) break. Mine was what is called a butterfly fracture. Thanks for the kind wish. Jerry

Yes, but I would like to move on to understanding gun laws in the USA.

Well "no" is easier to understand, granted, but I prefer ours. I especially prefer them here in Georgia where a carry weapon permit, not limited to guns and with no duty to conceal (IOW strap on a sword or battle axe if you want and walk down the street) is yours for the asking for $75, a clean record and a set of prints and where "he needed killin'" is still a valid defense. Well I'm joking about the defense (kind of) but not the rest.

Local town of Kennesaw passed a law requiring every household to own a gun, though they exempted anyone who objected so it doesn't mean much. But crime dropped anyway - criminals know to go on down the road and enter a house somewhere else.

In one line?
If you call me a gun nut one more time, I WILL SHOOT YOU!

Do you understand now?

Good point Roger.

NYS has a very rigid pistol law and NYC has one even stiffer. Here we undergo 6 months to 1 year of scrutiny before getting a pistol permit. Each pistol must be registered along with our fingerprints.

I cannot legally let an unlicensed person even handle a pistol. There is an exception for instructors and military or former military with proper training. It must be exercised in a gun club type of environment IIRC.

Long guns are restricted to a semiatomatic or less, with clips of 10 or less rounds.

The only person that can get guns easily in NYS is a criminal. I cannot even buy ammunition for a pistol without showing that I have a license and that that caliber pistol is listed on it.

Ahhh well, another topic done to death in another thread. Thanks cliveh,

PE

On one hand in Los Angeles County it is very hard to get a concealed weapons permit; on the other it takes three clips to change a lane in traffic.
