I would say nothing, if you believe the statistics. More to fear from doctors, with something like 80,000 nosocomial deaths per year compared to around 1500 deaths due to accidental shootings.
There's an underlying sentiment in parts of the US that goes something like "I'm a uneducated moron and @#!*% proud of it".
