Pearl surface equivalent from Adox/Foma

Hello all,

until now, I mostly printed RC and specifically Ilford pearl. I'd like to give other brands a try. Adox MCP 312 and Fomaspeed Variant 312 are possible choices. So, are they close to the pearl surface, or are they closer to satin?

It's a good question and surprising that there have been no answers. The Adox MCP is relatively new but I imagine it is identical or nearly so to Agfa MCP312 which was called semi-matte and which a few must have used. Foma has been around longer but it may be that both papers have a very limited number of users.

I have some Fomaspeed 312 and it looks closer to satin to me.
It is also similar to the Kodak N surface.

I am also a Pentax Man.

Freestyle just announced their Arista.Edu Ultra paper in a Pearl surface. According to their description it is "very similar to Ilford RC Pearl". I don't know if the paper is Foma like the film is.

Though I haven't used this particular paper surface before, I've had great results with their Semi-Matte surface. Slightly thinner than Ilford papers but that hardly matters when its in a frame.

I just checked it. Since it's made in the Czech republic, it's 101% sure that it's Foma.

geee I don't know. I think I'd only believe you if you were 102% sure.

Ifrord Pearl is very similar to the Kodak E surface.

Actually, I was talking about BW papers. There are Kodak and Fuji colour papers that have that kind of surface.

Yep, try the Foma Variant RC semi matte. Not sure whether its like Ilford's Pearl but it is lovely.
