Anybody got information about the reintroduction of Paterson chemicals - what developers will be available, when and where?
I need to restock and would like to renew my friendship with FX39 so don't want to go and order other devs then find out soon after that Paterson stuff is available!
The Paterson website says ACU range will be reintroduced from late Feb but I haven't seen any info. which I thought might have been available at Focus on Imaging.
Cheers

I spoke with Paterson yesterday and the chemicals (being made in Berlin) should be in the UK next week and with us shortly after that. He said that Acugrade, Aculux and FX39 were being re-introduced (not sure about Acutol) but not FX50 (yet). They would be available in 1 litre containers.

Regards,
Geoff

Geoff. I know this is a B&W thread but thought it worth asking this question rather than starting new thread as it should be self contained in your one answer.

Did your conversation reveal anything about whether it intends to bring back colour chems?

Thanks

I didn't ask about colour so I'm afraid I can't enlighten you.

Is there anywhere in the US that distributes Paterson? I would love to try some of their chems and paper.

The papers are actually made by Foma in the Czech Republic.

The resin coated warmtone is really unique and supposedly liths well. I have only done conventional prints but love it so hope it comes back. As for the chems, aculux and Fx-39 are GREAT!

Very loud cheers!

Aculux3

The instructions for the `new` Paterson Aculux3 developer can be downloaded from the Paterson site as a `Microsoft Word` Document, also other Paterson chemicals too.

Acutol.

The Paterson Acutol developer has been discontinued. FX-39 has replaced it as Paterson`s HIGH DEFINITION developer.

Hmmm....

I'm still not entirely sure of why they needed to fix something that was perfectly all right (absolutely brilliant, come to think of it) but I'll reserve judgement until I've tried the soup...

I know what you mean, but have to say that I trust Mr Crawley. He's a sensible chap. I find it hard to imagine how it could have been improved but suspect that keeping properties might have been looked at. I bet its basically the same as the Aculux 2 which I agree was a superb developer! Personally I dont find the loss of Acutol a great loss (again I stress personally) as FX39 produced amazing acutance, esp if used with traditional films.

I have to admit I have spent a lot of time getting to know other devs after the temporary demise of the Paterson devs which I was settling on. since then I have had affairs with many common devs in order to get some decent times on the slate so I dont have to worry about finding a dev for which I have some connfirmed times. I have had a lot of bad luck in timing, settling on APX in all formats when it became unavailable in sheet...did teh same for Ilford Fp4+ and then Ilford crumbled, same for Forte....OMG. So, I tested Tmax Dev, Xtol, ID11/d76, Ilfosol S (am familiar with Pyrocat HD alread) to spread the risk! Still, I would love to return to Aculux as I think it is has the best balance of image qualities and convenience of the lot! I have times for APX100, FP4, TriX, HP5+ so should be reasonably safe should a product or two slide away. But what is happening on the paper front...aaaarrrrgggg. Forte, Agfa...

I just hope Paterson produces their MG RC Warmtone paper in 20x16 as i can honestly say this is a RC paper I would happily frame. Theres nothing I have seen like it.

FX-50

And I would hope that FX-50 is about to return as well.

Why? Did you find it produced good results? Mine went off in less than a week so it was hard to tell...

Paterson Chemicals at retro photographic

retro photographic will have the new Paterson chemicals in stock next week - you can place an order on their web site Dead Link Removed - just go to the 'shop' section and then choose Paterson.

I am sure that other suppliers will also be getting them in soon.

I don't know if you have any interest in homebrewing chems, but I use FX37 1+5 for everything now and just love it. Easy to make and very economical..Evan Clarke

I keep thinking about it but have not yet taken the plunge. I don't want to get sucked into spending time making up developers, fixers and toners then testing them when excellent products are available retail. I think my time is better spent making pictures rather than developers although I recognise that perfectionists may have a different view.
