Of all the cheap spares I have, only one is truly not functioning. The mount and mirror box have been "tweaked," probably from being dropped. The rest only suffered from dead batteries and/or degrading foam seal bits finding their way to the shutters and making them stick.

My having so many spares may be overkill, but may not. So far, I took the best one, resealed it, and gave it to my best friend. I let a friend at work borrow another (he still has it) to shoot a couple rolls of microfilm I gave him. I have also toted around yet another as a spare when on vacation (or for B&W when my Grandfather's camera is loaded with color). I've only cannibalized one for parts (a shaft and crank for the cartridge because a repair shop put the wrong size in, causing a few lost frames when I thought it was completely rewound).

When I get some time, I will use one of the spares as a guinea pig for a complete tear-down and CLA (well, as close to a CLA as I'll be able to do myself).
