Pan F+ in D76 1+3?

Hello!

This past weekend I shot 4 rolls of Pan F+. I plan to develop them now. My question is that I am a bit low on developer and I was wondering if there is a problem with Pan F+ and D76 1+3?

On the box Ilford does not label times for that dilution.

I know it will increase the sharpness and grain (w/ Pan F+ what grain?).

I can get a fresh pack of D76 soonish but I dont want to drive 40 minutes out of my way right now.

You should be really fine with that! Just watch for some minimum stock solution quantity; somewhere around here I read that having less than 100ml is somewhat risky. That should give you 400ml of developer.

It will work, but why not stick to your standard development. Are the pictures you took so unimportant that convenience becomes a priority and you're a willing to take a risk? Why the rush? I don't understand the motivation.
 
They actually do, Ralph
Just check the "fiml development chart" instead of the individual fact sheet for panf. Same times as D76, though.

That publication does give the times for both ID-11 and D-76 diluted 1+3.

At 1+3 E.I.25 the times quoted are 12':30" and at E.I.50, the times quoted are 15':00" at 20*C for both developers.
You must have the older publication.

Ralph you are quite right on the film development spec sheets but Ilford do show times for both ID11 and D76 at the dilutions mentioned on its ID11 developer specs. There are a few areas where it might pay someone from Ilford to cross check all its publications and make sure that any "holes" are filled.

Ralph, I see what you mean now. I thought you was referring only to the current Pan F Plus fact-sheet.
The times are different for both FP4 Plus and HP5 Plus in ID-11 and D-76. However, I only ever use the tech-pubs as a starting point and I have established my own times for those two films over the years that I've used them. I use D-76 diluted 1+1 for both films.
There might possibly be slight differences in the formulae of the Kodak and Ilford developers, but whether you are able to measure those differences is another matter.

I have about 30oz of developer left, I have not developed Pan F+ myself, as I shoot mostly Arista EDU films which I develop 1+1 with D76. I now from having used Pan F+ a few times before (lab processed) that it has very fine grain, so I was thinking that the accutance gained from using a more dilute d76 would be good.

My only fear would be that it was too diluted and not develop, but as I see that Ilford posted times on their website for 1+3 dilution (Not on the inside of the box) I shall go ahead and develop them. I use 20oz diluted developer (albeit 1+1 or 1+3) for 1 roll of film (120), in my tank. All my rolls are 120 size.
