Pan-F and Pyrocat

I cannot seem to find reliable information about this combination online, so I decided to start making my own tests with this film.

First roll indicates that a good starting point for normal development with this film is:
EI 50, incident metering.
Pyrocat-MC at 70*F, 1+1+150, agitate first minute, than every three minuts at 9, 6, and 3 minutes. Developed in Paterson plastic tank.

I'll shoot a couple more rolls tomorrow and will report back here what I find.

Please don't ask me for any densitometry readings or other technical measurements since I don't have the means for it. I will test print these next weekend too.

If anybody else has experience with this combination, please post it here for comparison.

Hi thomas - just to add to the mix, I've had good results with this film in pyrocat HD at 1:1:100 1 min agitation then 4 inversions each 3 mins for 9 mins.

I might be trying Pan F in Pyrocat HD within nexe few weeks so your experience on this would be very helpfull. Though as far as I have found on this forum - people tend to shoot Pan F at about EI 20 - 32.

I found following developement procedure for Pan F in pYrocat HD here (I did NOT test myself) - if you are interested:

EI 20, presoak 2 min, developer 1:1:100, 21 deg Celsius, develope for 67 minutes agitate every minute for 5 seconds. stop with water and fix in TF-4 for 5 minutes.

are you sure the source said 67 minutes with 5 second inversion each minute? I can see this working if you gave a stand development with say 1 or 2 inversions at the halfway point - but developing film in pc hd for 67 minutes using normal agitation sounds far too long to me

Thomas, I've never used Pan-f and pyrocat, but I would think that you will be somewhere between 15 and 22 minutes, with minimal agitation. Best guess with this film (based on other films) would be about 18 minutes for this type of agitation, dilution and 70f temp.

Interested in hearing how you like the combination of Pan-f and minimal agitation for tonality, sharpness and overall look. Hope your tests go well. This would be a nice film for portraits. Are you shooting in outdoor light, basic daylight scenes? Best, tim

With Pyrocat MC and Pan F 50, I shoot at box speed and develop 1:1:200 for 21 minutes (semi-stand) @ 70 degrees. I agitate for the first 30 seconds and then another 15 seconds at the half-way point. I use the 100% potassium carbonate "B" solution.

Tom H - what's your agitation method for semi-stand? Do you agitate initially and then half-way through?

Yes, I start with a 2 minute tempered water presoak, 30 seconds of gentle initial agitation in the developer and then 30 seconds more gentle agitation, at the half-way point.
