Pan-F (a bit of good news for a change).

I communicated with Ilford a few days ago about another issue, but mentioned the rumours that Pan-F was about to be discontinued. They reply that there are no plans to scrap it. In fact, the death of Kodak Tech-Pan has given it a new lease of life because all the Tech-Pan users are switching to Pan-F.

I've sometimes thought I'd like Pan-F in sheets (imagine an 8x10 contact print!), but I fear the exposure times (outside the studio) would just get too long to be practical. Even with much faster films, waiting for calm air through a scene can be frustrating.

when most of your lenses are not in shutters, you really prefer the loong exposures..

not to mention the accuracy of the shutters i have

PanF in 8x10 would be delicious!!!

It could definitely be an interesting film in LF for studio portraits. The grain isn't so much the issue as the tonality. Pan-F is a nice looking film.

I only ever bought one roll of kodak yech pan(ooops,typing mistake-but it sums up my opinion!)and I was NOT impressed!
I love pan f-aside-it's the slowest film I use.
8x10?-pan f is beautiful even in 35mm!

Pan F

I recently shot Pan F and Tech Pan concurrently. The Pan F was hard to fault with lovely tonality. The Tech Pan's failing for me apart from strange tonality was its lack of apparent sharpness despite the high resolution of a 35 Summicron, however I thik it would be great for portraiture

I'm jumping for joy. My wife is also glad I'm not adding another 100 or so rolls of 120 film the her freezer space.

I am SO HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I use the film almost exclusicely with my B&W studio work! The tones and the delicate grain in Hot Rod gives me what I want!

Whilst it's always good to hear that a film is sticking around, Pan F is, in my opinion, hopelessly overrated, and not in the same class as TP. I achieved better results with some ISO 100 films. I've not tried that Gigabitfilm yet - maybe that's the true replacement for TP.

I know that one shouldn't really believe the local distributors or stores, but I have asked four stores, two of them in Athens and they said that Ilford of Greece does not distribute Pan F+ in the country -at all-. Since my only rolls where brought from the US six months ago, I am not sure if that's a new development or it has always been the case. The second wouldn't surprise me considering that even Delta is hard to find in Greece.

I've recently found Pan F developed in Pyro-TEA to be a superb combination.
