Hi, have any of you used a padded backpack insert with a modest medium format kit? Some of these inserts are reasonable cost (at least via eBay in USA). The photos show them with dslr kits.

I also considered a purpose-designed camera backpack, but many of them resemble a hard rectangle lump, and many have the "I am a camera dweeb, here is my serious kit" look.

Any recommendations? Thanks!

I prefer using a top loading camera backpack. I am using an old model Tamrac camera backpack with moveable separators, but it is an old old model so you are best off seeing what is available and works for you. I like a backpack with a waist strap, but other do not.

Take a look at the camera cubes from Peak Design. They offer many different sizes and, in my opinion, their design of the interior divider panels is ingenious; best I've ever seen. Note: comment based on the v2 series of these bags.

MindShift backpacks from ThinkTank. I have the Backlight 26L and it fits my medium format gear just fine. Also, the WANDRD packs with a photo insert. Make sure there's room for the prism finder if you use one.

This is an awesome kit (and probably rather heavy). Thanks for posting your picture. I may order one of the Peak Design cubes. They are an interesting option.
