Packard shutter

I'm considering getting a Packard shutter, but as I have never actually seen one, I'm not sure what size to get or how to mount it. I would rather mount it to the camera rather than front mount it to my lenses.

Obviously, the opening would have to be as large as the diameter of my largest lens, but what about the size of the shutter itself?

For instance, my lens diameter is 2-1/2" - my lens board is 6" - but a 2-1/2 inch packard shutter is only 4-3/4" square - not large enough to fit behind the lens board. Does one mount the shutter to a larger board which is then mounted inside the camera, or does one have to get a shutter large enough to fit behind the lens board regardless of how large the opening is?

When I think of a Packard my plan tends to be.

Get the largest shutter that will fit the back of a lensboard. To the front of the lensboard mount some sort of mounting adapter. Then when you want to use a lens you mount it and it's lensboard on the front of the board that holds the shutter.

I concur, get the largest one available that will fit the lensboard. Get some material to act as "stand-offs" and mount the packard shutter to the lensboard. The lens is attached to the lensboard via a threaded mount. You will need some sort of hole for the mechanism on the Packard shutter to stick through the lensboard. This is allows for the rubber tubing and squeeze bulb to be mounted and you will need this to be able to "fire" the shutter. I know several people that made mounts for the front of the lens and while it looks sorta "yucky", it works just fine.

What is needed is some sort of posts for the screws from the shutter to the lens board. "Stand-offs" are what I think they are called. Basically they are a double threaded metal post that one side screws into the shutter and the other side screws into the lens board. It might have to go thru the lens board. With a 610 mm lens there will be no problem with space back in the bellows.
