What would it take to get a Pacific Northwest Subforum going?
Nearby states of California and Utah have their own, but those of us up in rainy Oregon-Washington-Idaho don't have one.

I'd like to see some APUG get togethers started, and the best way is through a regional group (as evidenced by posts on other region forums).

Is there enough interest? If you are located in Idaho - Oregon - Washington and would like to get a regional APUG forum going, reply to this. Maybe we'll see if there is enough interest to get one formed.

I've sent in a request months ago to the site moderators but heard nothing back, so that route does not work.

I'm in Seattle, and I'd be interested.

I live in Tacoma so it would be good for me as well.

I live in Portland, Oregon and I would be interested as well.

I am glad that the farthest considered boundaries of the State of Cascadia (or as I have heard of it, The State of Jefferson) includes us here in the northwest of California. I must admit that I chuckle when I hear of San Francisco and Sacramento refered to as "Northern" California...but I realize that Bay Area residents, for many good reasons, prefer to think themselves as the polar opposite of Southern CA. But in truth, I see a lot of SoCal in the East Bay and San Jose areas, and Sacramento is, well, Sacramento. Central CA, IMBO, is a more accurate term (Central Valley and Central Coast).

I do not know if those north of us would consider us to be a part of the Pacific Northwest -- or if they are mentally bounded by the artificially drawn Oregon State Line. We here in Humboldt County certainly do not align ourselves with any place south of Santa Rosa...and perhaps not even that far south.

So if we were to have a Cascadia subarea, I hope that we in the far NW of California would be considered as in that subarea.

I took a Pacific Northwest geography course and some of the thoughts are that the upper portion of California are part of the PN region, I would say Vaughn is welcome. I would say so anyways.
Now what? Do we share ideas of where is the best places to photograph? I would also say where is the best roadside dinners or best places to stay over. Do we arrange for gatherings?
I'm up for all this.

I'm in Seattle. I would be interested.

As an aside, I will have a show of palladium prints at the Verve Wine Bar & Cellar in Columbia City (neighborhood in south Seattle). The opening is on Sunday June 15th 4-7pm and runs through July. Come on by if you are in town.

I am on Vashon Island and would be interested in a get together.

I also would be interested though I would be inactive unti maybe this Fall. My wife has some serious health issues that we will be dealing with for the next several months.

Lets see first if we get enough people interested that the moderators grant us the subforum for Pacific Northwest like Utah and (places south of Eureka-)California....

Pacific Northwest has always included B.C....its not a stateside exclusive on the name. Crescent City is closer to Portland (by time 5 hours) and by distance, then from San Francisco... Eureka perhaps in the middle. No reason to exclude anyone that likes rain.

First informal gathering will be sometime in mid-August.

Eureka is about 80 miles south of the Oregon border -- Onwards Thru the Fog!

Where would the gathering take place?

How about Ashland, Oregon? I know a few nice spots there and maybe we could see if John Wimberley can come out and play? Or we can decide by saying 6 hour drive from the north and 6 hour drive from the south and we meet there.

Robert - for several years you've been trying to get your Portland Photographers Forum SOUTH started in Ashland/Medford. Dead Link Removed

Is this the underlying reason you are suggesting Ashland? Seems like some sort of gigantic coincidence here...

While Ashland (just a few miles from the California border but still in Oregon along I-5) well for those in Eureaka, Arcata, or Crescent City(State of Jefferson), the people on this list from Idaho, Washington State or B.C. might have a significantly longer way to go.

So........

Ashland is a long way to go for us Puget Sounders, let alone the folks from B.C.
I for one hope for a gathering in the Seattle/Tacoma/Everett area. That is the population base and we may get a better turn out. Maybe we should go for two smaller areas like Washington/B.C. and another one like Oregon/Northern Ca.?

Where we meet depends upon whether people want a place for several days that has the opporuntiy to make some images, or whether they just want to get together for an evening of socializing.

Wide difference in venue. And Attendance....

Sorry, if I seem to be pushing an agenda. I'm just putting ideas out there. Actually, I'm not promoting PPF south. I have very little to do with it. If you had read my post I added if not Ashland (And I was thinking of our friend in Northern calif, There) maybe six hour drive from the Northern part of the PC and Six hour drive from the Southern portion.
I would also state that since were a photography group, (APUG) Photography would be apart of such a meeting.
My mistake.

So........

Oh and Thanks for the shout out to PPF's website!

Don't worry about arranging a meeting place with my distance in mind...I'll probably have to give an August meeting a miss. I am going to be busy getting the teaching darkroom at the university up and running for the new school year (classes start late Aug.)

OK, Please respond direct to me rather than posting ,

1) you are interested in attending. (Or why respond to this if not planning to attend???)

2) Which of the following you'd like (more than one ok)
a) meet and greet
b) show work
c) go someplace for landscape photography (outdoors, etc)
d) go someplace for city photography
So basically -- what combination of making images, sharing images, and socialization should this be?

3) I would attend if the get together was within 50-75 miles of
a) Ashland, Oregon (not sure)
b) Portland, Oregon (Columbia River Gorge, Coast)
c) Spokane, Washington (Palouse)
d) Olympia Washington (Rainier, Coastal Washington)
e) Seattle Washington (city)
f) Vancouver BC
g) Some other place not mentioned, maybe Idaho or ???
Note that I cannot plan all of these -- we'd prefer someone local to arrange

4) I would prefer
a) August
b) July
c) September
d) October

5) I would prefer the following (you'll be booking your own, but site selection may be modified slightly)
a) Campsite availability
b) Hotel/motel accomodations
c) Just an evening or single day event - no need to stay anywhere

maybe if we understand demographics we can better figure this out.
