Does anyone know where to purchase "p-aminophenol base" developing agent? I would like to make my own Rodinal. Thanks,

I think 4-aminophenol is the same, just a different name. Searching for this gives me results from general chemistry wholesalers. I'm not 100% sure it's the same but if it is you can probably get it cheaply at whatever chemicals wholesaler is near you.

I hope you have better luck in mixing your own Rodinal than I did. My version had a different strength than the manufactured stuff. I did a couple of rolls using my ordinary times and they didn't come out very well. I would have had to start time and EI experiments all over again. I went back to the real McCoy and used my homebrew as a paper dev.; worked ok there.

While it's not exactly rodinal, I've been shocked at how easy and cheap parodinal is. It's dirt cheap too since you can buy enough Tylenol to make 4 liters of the stuff for under $10. I haven't done scientific testing comparing the two but the development times are the same and by eye I get results that are indistinguishable

I was watching "Pictorial Planet" & the presenter explains how to make Rodinal & why. The why, was if Rodinal was ever taken off the market one could make their own. I hope it never is but I thought why not give it a try. So, I haven't tried it yet but when I don't have any thing else to do I'll try it. Sorry your batch wasn't as strong as it should have been.
Thanks for responding

Perhaps you will hit that magic mix. You don't a lot to lose but some time, a little film and some chemistry $. Let us know how you made out.
