Overcooked Adox CHS II in HC-110 Dil. E?

This negative came out a bit too contrasty. Adox CHS II 4X5 sheet, tray developed in HC-110 dil. E for 8 minutes at 68C, as per the massive dev chart. I used the Kodak stop solution and then Kodafix for fixer. Also, I used a Nikon O56 filter and accounted for it by reducing the shutter speed about 1 2/3 or 2 stops.

Any suggestions on how to control contrast will be greatly appreciated.

Of course it was not exactly the best time of the day, about 11am and very sunny.

Your scene seem to have high SBR and you have underexposed the frame for one stop at least? You have developed 1 minuter shoter than what is in spec https://www.fotoimpex.com/shop/images/products/media/44450_5_PDF-Datasheet.pdf so development wise everything is good.

I don't see it being particularly "contrast" for being a shot from very contrast lightning conditions.

Thank you! I had only looked at the massive dev chart, there's more detail in the manufacturer data. I was exposing for the trees which was somewhere in between the sky (which I darkened with the filter), and the bridge/water. But you are right, that lighting wasn't the best to deal with.

What EI did you use? I normally expose this film at EI 64, and develop for sightly less, depending on developer.

Late response, but I don't not really compute EI that exactly. I think I pushed down the aperture somewhere between f/22 and f/16 after metering at f/22, so I am going to presume this may have been somewhere around EI 64. If I am calculating correctly.

What was your light metre set at?
