My daughter has recently been bitten by the film bug, but she wants to do colour, in which I have little experience. Of her first 4 films, two with box speed 400 ISO were accidentally exposed at 200 ISO. She intends to scan the negs. Is it best to ignore the one-stop overexposure and process normally, or find a lab that will do pull-processing? Thanks to unexpectedly good weather, most of her shots will have high contrast and bright highlights.

I say develop as normal, color negative does pretty good overexposed.

Yeah, don't worry about it. Just proceed as normal.

high contrast and bright highlights.

Compared to B&W film or color transparencies, dmax on those color negatives will still be quite limited and no scanner will have any trouble 'scanning through' the highlights.

Thanks, both. I hoped that's what you would say, but wanted to be sure. The over-exposure amounts to only one stop, after all, and we don't yet know how good my daughter's metering is. I so hope this will not be a discouraging first experience for her. We all know how many ways there are to mess up with film.

No worries. It's great that your daughter expresses an interest in photography. I hope it'll give her as much satisfaction as it does all of us here! Wish her the best of luck.
