Thanks David. I put a bid in, but I am sure it will go for way more than my bid. Hopefully one of us APUGers will buy it and sell a bit to the group. I would love to have 100 sheets or so, but beyond that I am not sure I could shoot that much 25 speed film.

If there was anyone thinking of bidding with a view to selling on some of the 4x5, then I too would be interested in 50 or 100 sheets, so long as the price bears some resemblance to normality. I fear that the price may well go through the roof on this.

I would also be interested in 50 sheets of both 10x8 and 5x4 - if the price were reasonable!!

Given slow film ages very slowly I would say there is a good chance the film will look as good as if it was fresh. So a good price may be $.50 to $.75 a sheet for 4x5.

Agree, happy to have 50 sheets 4x5 at this price, wouldn't want to go above your upper limit. Suggest postage to one UK address and in absence of other volunteers, I am happy to sort out posting on to other UK APUG members.

Suggest that you claim bounty of the opened boxes for your efforts.

Surprised Tom Stanworth hasn't come in on this thread. I'll rattle his cage!

Many thanks.

Having about 15 rolls of APX 25 left in 35mm, and knowing how good it is , I just don`t want to try it in 4x5, it would be a traumatic experience knowing that I`ll never be able to get more of it...

I am willing to buy the lot and sell most of it off to APUG members. I already have a bid, but I suspect it will not stand as is. So how about if everybody who is serious sends me a PM with the amount of film you want and the max you are willing to pay. I will treat it like a Dutch auction and put the bid in for the lowest price x the number of boxes. If there are more boxes wanted the lowest bidders will loose out. I will also submit bids for myself so it is fair. I also plan on valuing the 8x10 at 4 times the 4x5 price.

I expect you to buy the film if you PM me so I don't get stuck with a huge pile of it. Try to get bids in to me by a few hours before the end. I am also open to other suggestions.

I just looked at the auction and there is a note at the bottom of the description saying that the seller doesn't know how many sheets are in each box but that he guarantees 25. That's only half of the 600 that is being advertised in the title. I am not in the market for the film, but this did make me a little curious. Does anyone know the seller?

I assume that is only for the open boxes, but I just sent the seller off a note to make sure. Thanks for pointing that out, as I hadn't looked in a few days.

Have just checked labelling on an old box of APX100. The sticker on the end of the box begins 25 then size in metric, followed by 4x5inch. This box held just 25 sheets. Thinking about it now, unaware that Agfa and Ilford only sold in boxes other than 25. But since only using LF for 4 years accept that this might not always have been the case.
Agree it needs following up with vendor. Thanks for doing so. Suggest asking for a photo of the ends of the boxes.

This guarantee that now only half the amount originally stated, is insufficient - in my book amounting to mis-selling. Ebay experts - what recourse is there?

Item description and title have changed significantly (was 600 sheets - now apparently only 300 sheets). This change was made well before the end of auction. Seller should accept and grant any and all bidder's requests to cancel their bids. If the seller refuses to cancel a bid (at the bidder's request), then the bidder is completely justified in retracting his bid.

Larry,
If you win I will buy some off of you (4x5) -- if you like.

Good luck

P.S. I wish you were a snipper.

[font=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif][size=-1]This is the response from the seller:

Dear lgeb,

You asked:
"You say not less than 25 sheets per box - this is only for the open boxes correct? Also, what is the range of expiration dates."

No this is for the sealed boxes. They are the thickness of the Kodak 50 sheet boxes, but the box quantity is not prominant on the Agfa. The ASA rating might also be the amount of sheets in the box, which is 25. The opened boxes have between 15 and 20 sheets in the box with pieces of paper between the sheets. The expirization ranges in the 90-91 years, but with B&W film that is airtight and kept frozen, I don't think deteriozation will be a problem. I've used government war surplus B&W paper that was 30 years old without a problem.

-----------------------------

So it appears that there are only 300 sheets of 4x5 and 50 sheets of 8x10.

His response is (deliberately?) ambiguous. Photo of sticker on end of boxes would give greater degree of confidence than currently.

OTOH - With your method of calculating effectively 500 sheets of 4x5, so with bid at $265- now at $0.53 a sheet. So presume you still consider worth proceeding?

I stopped bidding when I tried to think about someone storing this much film for 14 years.

Also, it would be seriously helpful if he provided a photo of the entire box.

All, I still haven't heard from the seller about pictures of all the boxes. The more I think about this auction the less I like it. First it is mislabled as 50 sheet boxes, then I can't get an actual picture of the whole lot. I do not feel comfortable raising the bid I have. Plus we have only one person in the group who values the film on a per sheet basis of more than the bid I have in, excluding the 8x10. So, I am saying I am out, unless the bid actually holds. Sorry for any disapointment this may cause.

That's fine. in light of the vendor's reluctance to meet your reasonable requests and doubts, are you going to retract the bid? More than happy for you to do this.

I too think it very risky in light of the proceedings, age of film etc. How do we know it has actually resided in a freezer if the guy can't count?

Thankyou for your effort in chasing this film.

If you are really wanting the film and are concerned about the seller, you can always escrow the purchase...gives you the opportunity of inspecting the mdse before the funds are released...I have done that and it worked really well.
